The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

For my five year old going to school for the First time I choose to read and review The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.  The story is about a small raccoon name Chester.  Chester didn't want to go to school because he was afraid.  He wanted to stay home with his mother, play with his own toys, read his own books, and play with his own friends.  His mother assured him that when he goes to school, he will play with new toys, read new books, and make new friends.  His mother let him on a secret to make his school nights cozy like his days at home.  It's called "The Kissing Hand".  She kisses his hand and tells him to put it close to his cheek when he is feeling lonely at school.  In return Chester Kisses his mother's hand before he goes to school.

My five year old daughter and I enjoyed reading this book the day before school started.  The day my husband and I dropped her off to school we kissed her hand before we left and she put our kiss on her cheek.  She told us to drive safe home and she'll see us after school.
